Planning Digipak- Miss Miller

There is many reasons into why digipaks and jewel CD cases are important, they both have many differences and similarities when it comes to promoting the artist, building the relationship between the audience and artist and how effective they are in the promotion of the album. Digipaks and jewel CD cases are effective as they enable the audience to gain more information about their prehaps favourite artist anf gives them more of an insight to the song and album. It gives some personal feel towards the artist and the audience and creates a much more meaningful relationship between them as they are able to see the process in which the album was made and they can connect more.

The purpose of a digpak is to give the audience more information about the artist and the fans get to know the artist more and can be more involved with their personal life. The digipak includes elements to purposely give information and how the album was created and what they did during the process, which can therefore make them more connected with them and to relate more to their lives.
The design of the digipak is much more in depth and more appealing to the audience which can include many more images than an original jewel CD. The larger space for images which are high definition and of much higher quality makes the audience feel as if they are paying a good price for what they are buying. The jewel CD case has the basic information that the audience will need. Whereas, the digipak will include a personal note within it, making it seem as if the artist is talking directly to the fan themselves and again gives it a more personal feel and making the audience feel welcomed. These points are all of which will be included within our own digipak as we want a warming feel and to make the artist seem down to earth, which supports the indie genre also.

My group and I will be creating a digipak in order to promote the artists 'Lola Starr''s new song and we want the target audience to have a better relationship with the artist. The way in which we planned this was on an a4 piece of paper, each section representing one point of the digipak. We have planned this carefully adding what we think would be a successful point and which we can later on include in our final production of the digipak. We used a varitey of different pictures and camera angles making the images more interesting and appealing for the audience. The close up angles allow for the artist to be shown off and allow for the audience to see the artist clearly and sew theyre appearance. The close up also makes the audience focus on only them.

The colours that we will be using will all be coventional of the indie genre. This is because we want to highlight the indie genre massively. We will use blues and greens within the digipak in order to create an earthly setting and nature is a main part of her image. These colours will represent her soft personality and that she is down to earth. These colours will appeal to our target audience as they are bright, spiritual colours which is what attracts people to the indie genre. These will make the audience to feel happiness, this connects the audience to connect with the artist as it promotes her as being positive and her songs will send a positive message to her fans. The other colours that we will be including are reds, oranges and yellows. These will be included to coinside with the song name 'Burn'. These colours will represent her rleationship and her feelings. The contrast in colours will make the audience understand her feelings mixed with her personality and will get a feel of what the songs will be about on her album.

The typography in which we will be using for the digipak will be easy readable and flowing. We will be making the font easy to read as we want to attract a wide audience and therefore using a basic and easy on the eye font, many people will be able to understand what is written. The flowing font will represent the artists personality and their attitude to life. The joint, flowing letters will represent her as an easy going person and highly laid back. However, with the pictures of her, this will enhance to the audience that she is serious about her job and respects what she does. The font will be highly stereotypical of the indie genre as it `allows for the audience to understand the artist more and feel more connected to her. This is successful as the audience will want to know more about the artist and result in buying the album.

We will be using many pictures of the artist on the digipak in order to show to the audience who she is. For fans, this will make them want to buy the album more as they can keep the digipak as a keep safe and can have more merchandise from their favourite artist. The pictures that we will be included will have a variety of different camera angles in order to promote and sell the artist. The close ups we will be using are just of the artists eyes. This makes it feel as if she is looking directly the audience and the audience can therefore feel more connected to her. They feel as if they are looking into her eyes, connecting with her. Another image that we will use on the digipak is a long shot of the artist playing her guitar. This enhances the indie music genre as guitars are very stereotypical. The use of this image will portray her talents to the audience. The audience will then see her multi-talents and attract to her more as they believe she is hard working and successful at what she does. Her playing her guitar represents to the audience that she is serious about her job and wants to be successful at what she does. The long shot here, also shows off her clothing. Her clothing is extremely casual which represents to the audience that she is down to earth. It tells the audience that you don't have to change yourself to be successful and people should accept you for who you are. The audience can find this inspiring and want to get to know more about her and buy the album. This is conventional to the indie genre as they see she is relaxed and down to earth as the indie genre is percieved to be.

The planning of the digipak was helpful for my group and I as when it came to creating it, we knew exactly what to include and what would be successful. Planning it together allows for everyones views and opinions to be heard and we could work as a team and come to a conclusion of what should include to create a successful indie digipak.

  1. You have provided a sounds analysis of your plan, explaining why you have chosen certain elements to use within your digipak.

    You need to:
    1) Make sure you state whether you will include a personal message/acknowledgment from the artist and why
    2) Make sure you explain all elements fully in terms of what they create for the audience and how it will help promote the artist
    3) Elaborate on some of your points by explaining how you want elements used to represent and promote the artist
    4) Make sure you cover all bullet points: conventions of genre, style of language etc.
    5) Digipak drawing needs to be your own! Change this
