Planning Cinematography- Miss Georgiou

Cinematography is an extremely important part within a music video and should be planned very precisely and carefully. Each camera shot can be used to connect the audience to the artist, enhancing their relationship and can also give the audience a better understanding and insight of what is occuring within the scene.



The first cinematography element which will be included in our music video is the use of a close up. Close ups are very conventional of the indie genre as the audience are able to see the artists facial expressions. The audience are able to see the emotions on the artists face and can see what emotion the artist is feeling.  This allows for the audience and artist relationship to improve as the artist is revealing how they feel at certain times which enables for the audience to connect with them and are able to understand and feel a certain way of emotion towards the artist. This camera shot will help represent my artist as the emotions on her face to attract the audience. A close up shot will be shown at various different times throughout the video, specifically when she is singing into the camera, when she sings 'we dont have to worry about nothing'. The audience will feel as if she is singing directly to them, creating a more personal feel. The audience are also able to see how she is feeling and what emotion she is presenting.




The next camera shot which I will be using is the use of the two shot. This shot will be used to show the artist and her boyfriend together. This shows the whole scenario and the setting in which the characters are in. This shot will be used specifically when the couple are in Camden. This allows for them both to be shown to the audience and the natural setting to be conveyed. By doing this, their relationship is able to be shown as strong and that they are happy together, and they do not have to care what other people think. This is conventional because indie artists usually sing about relationships, so therefore, this shot allows for the audience to actually see what the artists is singing about. This allows for the audience to connect more with the artist as they may think they have been in the same situation and understand the emotions. The specific point in which we will use this cinematography element is when the lyrics say 'we don't want to leave, no' in order to present their relationship as strong and everything is perfect. 


The next cinematography element we have planned and that will be featured in our video is the use of zooming in. This can be used to look up to the artist. This is conventioanl to an indie music video as the zooming in allows for the audience to connect with the artist more as the zooming in makes it seem as if we are becoming more involved with the artist and we are havin more of an insight of how the artist feels and what their emotions are. As the the facial expressions are not seen from a distance, as the camera gets closer the audience will be able to have a clearer understanding of what the artist really feels. We have decided to do this in order to enhance the relationship between the artist and the audience. At the point of the song when 'giving love to the world, we'll be raising our hands' the camera will gradually zoom into the artists face, as well as her boyfriends. This allows to them to see that they are happy together and enjoy what they're doing when they are together. 

The next camera shot that we will be using is use of a medium shot to show the artist and the instrument that she is playing, which is a guitar which is conventional of the indie genre. This allows for her talents to be shown to the audience, perceiving her as multi-talented and attracting them more to her as they believe she has many talents and will want to know more about her. The artist will be performing into the camera at the chorus when it sings 'when the lights turned down, they don't know what they heard'. This allows for the audience to get to know more about who she is and her talents that she has. This  is highly conventional to the indie genre as the audience are able to see her talents.

The last camera shot we will be using is the establishing shot. This shot allows for the audience to see again the setting in which they are in and what people are around them. This is conventional as at this point the audience are shown her full surroundings and the setting in which she is in. The setting will reinforce the inide genre. This camera shot will help to represnt the artist as the setting may reinforce where she spends her time and we get to know more background information about the artist.

The target audience can build a relationship with the artist through the camera shorts that I have selected, and therefore the facial expression that is involved within the camera shot can help the audience be more involved with the artist and help them involve them with their words and lyrics
