Photoshoot- Miss Miller

When creating our music video, we will be creating a digipak and a magazine advert in order to promote and sell our artist. We therefore had a photo shoot in order to get the successful pictures we need. Our photos needed to attract our relevant audiene and portray the artists image. This helps to create the artist and audience relationship as they are able to see how she dresses, how she presents herself and can get better feel for her and ulitmatley either be attracted or turned away by this. The pictures that have taken shall be used for both the digipak and the magazine advert. It is important for us to take a variety of different pictures in order to show off the artist;s image off in many different angles and show her personality through her image. These images will allow for the audience to see a full image of the artist, and begin to have an idea of her personality from what is being shown. The variety of shots let the audience share a more personal relatinship with the artist as they are able to see her in her nartural element and what she does best.

The first image that we will use is the use of a close up in which the main focus is on the artists eyes. We have chosen this image as it shows off the artist facial expression and makes eye contact for the audience and the artist. This image allows for the audience to see the artist fully and sells the artist to the audience, according ti Goodwin's theory. It follows stereotypical elements of the indie genre as the use of mise-en-scene is highlighted. For example, the red bandana is shown off by the high key lighting. The bandana gives the artist a more egdey look and somewhat rebellious. The red bandana makes her stand out, and she should be the centre of attention. The soft facial expression that she is pulling reflects characteristics of her personality. Her mouth is open and her eyes are wide which represents her as confident and outgoing in which is what we wanted to portray with this image. We will intended to use this on our digipak as it is more personal. The eye contact made helps to build the relationship between the adience and artist as the audience feel as if they are looking into the artists eyes and connecting with her.

The second image that we took is a long shot f herself which shows off her clothing and her guitar. We took this picture as it allows for the artists talent and style to be shown off. This allows for the audience to get to know more about the artist and what she is about. We discussed as a group and we believe this would be a good image for the magazine advert as it shows the artist off fully and makes the audience realise what she is about. The mise-en-scene is very conventional to the indie genre in this image. The clothing seen is a denim jacket leggings and big boots. This enhances the indie genre and reflects her personality. The baggy jacket and the bandana to pull her hair out of her face makes her seem highly laid back and easy going. The setting is grungey and in a hidden location which makes her seem mysterious and therefore the audience will want to know more about her.The iconography being the guitar, shows off her talents to her audience. As the audience knows she is a singer, letting them know she plays the guitar too makes her seem multi talented and the audience will see this as inspirational. We decided to make the guitar the centre of attention to promote the indie genre and make indie fans want to know more. We believed this was a good photo as it shows off the artist fully and reflects some aspects of her personality. We believe also that it will build the audience and artist relationship as she is seen as a role model and the audience will want to aspire to be like her and like her more for who she is.

The next picture that we took was a high angled shot of the artist. This particular pictured shows off the more rebellious side of the artist. We wanted to show off the two sides of the artist and we took this picture to do so. We will intend to use this picture in the digipak to show off her mutiple sides. We believe that using this on the magazine advert would be too explicit for younger children and in general poeople may be turned off by what she is doing and would therefore result the artist to be unsuccessful. This is conventional of the indie genre as it portrays many diffferent elements from the indie gernre. The mise-en-scene used is the clothing and the iconography. The denim jacket makes her seem somewhat grungey and wold give the artist a stereotypical indie image so that she would appeal to her target audience. The cigarette used in this portrays her rebellious side and links in with the idea of fire as the song title is called 'Burn'. This will create a relationship between the audience and the artist as it shows her more rebellious side which people may be attracted to.

The last image that we took was a mid shot of the artist looking directly into the camera. We took this picture in order to allow for the audience to have a better idea of whom she is as an artist and have a clearer image of her artist representation. We discussed as a group that we would use this as the magazine advert picture as it allows for the audience start to understand whom she is. For example, the way is pulling the jacket over her mouth, can portray to the audience that she is innocent and hiding parts of her personality which the audience may find intriguing and want to find out more about her. It is conventional of the indie genre as we are able to see her clothing which is a denim jacket and a bandana, which are highly typical of the indie genre. This attracts the indie genre fans and other people in whom may be attracted to what she is wearing. We believe this is good because the artist is looking directly at the camera allowing for direct eye contact to be made, connecting the audience and artist more.

My group and I found it a fun and important task to have a photo shoot of our artist as we were able to take control of the representation of the artist. We have built the artists character and is therefore a much easier task for us to film as we know exactly how to portray her within the video.

  1. You have provided a good analysis of your photoshoot, clearly explaining what your thoughts were when taking each picture and where you intended to use them and why.

    You need to:
    1) Elaborate on some of you explanations by mentioning how the artist is promoted and represented in each picture
    2) Elaborate on your conclusion explaining how you found taking pictures and why you think these particular pics will help make a successful advert and digipak
